Sophomore Molly Malone (Fayetteville, N.Y.) set the Syracuse record with a 2:07.81 time in the 800-meter run last weekend at the SPIRE Division I Track Field Invite last weekend in Geneva, Ohio. Meanwhile, senior Lauren Penney’s 3000-meter time of 9:12.76 at the Husky Classic in Washington shattered her own school record by more than three seconds.

This is the second time that Penney has broken a school record this season. She also set a new mark in the mile run with a time of 4:39 at the Penn State National Invitational. Malone’s time was good for a fifth place finish in the event, and broke the previous Orange record held by Teri Edgerly in 1983.

The Orange entered six student-athletes in the women’s 3000-meter run, and were led by Erin Cawley 15th place finish overall at 9:40.65.

Also competing for the Orange in Ohio was senior Pat Dupont and Tito Medrano, who both punched their tickets to the NCAA Indoor Championships later this season with their 12th (14:38.18) and 13th (14:39.82) times in the 5000-meter run. Senior Corey Robinson (15th; 8:13.71), Andrew Palmer (19th; 8:15.78), Reed Kamyszek (23rd; 8:20.90) and Andrew Bennison (28th; 8:25.62) also secured a spot in postseason competition with IC4A qualifying times in the 3000-meter run.
