Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz.

– Morgan Nandin tied a school record with seven RBI’s to lead Syracuse (3-0) past McNeese State (2-2) on Saturday morning 11-2 at the Tempe Sports Complex.

Syracuse took the early lead in the top of the second when Kelly Saco brought home Carey-Leigh Thomas. Nandin then singled down the left field line to bring in Stephanie Watts. Shirley Daniels followed that with her first career homerun with a blast to right field.

The Orange added to its lead in the top of the third, courtesy of a two-run double from Nandin which brought home Thomas and pinch runner Emily Thompson, and gave SU and pitcher Jenna Caira a 6-0 cushion.

Caira was dealing early, striking out five of the first nine Cowgirls. McNeese State was scoreless through three innings.

After Watts and Saco reached to start the fifth inning, Nandin struck again, this time with a three-run homerun. It was her first home run of the season and the second of her career.

Nandin would then add a sac fly in the top of the sixth for her school record seventh run-batted in. She tied Hallie Gibbs seven RBI output last year when SU defeated Rutgers 23-0.

Caira registered six strikeouts and surrendered three hits in four innings of work. Freshman Lindsay Taylor finished the afternoon in the circle for the Orange.

The Orange is back in action this afternoon as the SU looks to defeat a Top 10 opponent when Syracuse and No. 8 Arizona tangle at 3:30 p.m. Fans can follow an in-game blog of the game by clicking here.
