Hemingway Named BIG EAST Player Of Week
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — After she scored 24 points in each of Syracuse’s wins last week, senior forward Iasia Hemingway was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday. On Tuesday, the Orange defeated Providence on the road, 80-54, before returning to the Carrier Dome to knock off USF on Saturday, 76-61.
On Tuesday against the Friars, Hemingway shot 69.2 percent from the floor (9-of-13) in addition to grabbing four rebounds and dishing out three assists. The Newark, N.J. native followed that up with a game-high 24 points to lead all scorers on 9-of-14 shooting and added five assists and five rebounds. She also shot a combined 12-of-14 from the free throw line during the week.
Hemingway leads the Orange, and is fifth in the BIG EAST with 16.5 points per game, and is 15th in the conference with 6.6 rebounds per game. She has led SU in scoring in 11 of the team’s 24 games this season, including 20 double-digit games. Hemingway has had three games with at least 30 points, most recently at Pittsburgh on Jan. 7.
