Syracuse Sweeps Weekly CHA Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Coming off a 3-2 victory on the road at Quinnipiac on Saturday, three members of the Syracuse ice hockey team earned weekly College Hockey America honors on Monday. Sophomore center Margot Scharfe was named the Player of the Week, sophomore Kallie Billadeau as Goaltender of the Week and Nicole Ferrara as Co-Rookie of the Week.

Scharfe had a team high two points last weekend at Quinnipiac (one goal, one assist). She scored the opening goal of the game on Saturday late in the first period, her 10th of the season and added the secondary assist on the game-winning goal with 8:36 left in regulation. Scharfe leads the Orange with 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists). She is 95th in the nation in points per game (0.75), tied for 74th in goals per game (0.36) while her 10 goals are tied for sixth in the CHA and her 11 assists are tied for 10th. She also has seven points in her last five games (three goals, four assists).

Billadeau played in the second game of the weekend series at Quinnipiac, making 53 saves to backstop the Orange to a 3-2 win on Saturday. She made double-digit saves in every period against the Bobcats, including 18 in the final frame to preserve the victory. Billadeau is 5-8-2 for SU this season with a 3.12 goals against average (37th in the nation; sixth in the conference) and .902 save percentage (32nd in the nation, fourth in the conference). Her 432 saves this season are also third in the CHA.

Ferrara scored the game-winning goal with 8:36 left in regulation to give the Orange a 3-2 win on the road at Quinnipiac. Ferrara has four goals and nine assists this season, which are tied for the Syracuse freshman lead. Of her four goals, two have been game-winners, a team-high. She is tied for 45th in the nation among rookies with 0.46 points per game, while her nine assists are tied for 13th in the conference.

The Orange returns home to Tennity Ice Pavilion this weekend to host Robert Morris in the final two home games of the season. Prior to Saturday’s game at 2:00 p.m., SU will honor its four seniors (Stephanie Jones, Taylor Metcalfe, Lisa Mullan and Megan Skelly) for their dedication to the Orange and the Syracuse community.
