Tennis Home Opener: SU vs. St. John’s

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University tennis team (0-2) looks to notch its first win of the season as the Orange hosts St. John’s (0-0) on Friday night in its home opener at Drumlins Tennis Center. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
Syracuse has been on the road for the first two weeks of the season against nationally-ranked programs in No. 42 South Florida and No. 51 TCU. The Orange fell to the Bulls 5-2 and suffered a 6-1 setback to the Horned Frogs.
Senior Emily Harman recorded her first win of the season in No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-5) decision against No. 92 Stefanie Tan of TCU last Saturday. Harman’s first four combined matches have all come against nationally-ranked opponents. She has played No. 1 for both singles and doubles in each of SU’s first two matches.
St. John’s finished the 2011 campaign 11-10 overall and 4-2 in the BIG EAST. The Orange and the Red Storm met in the first round of last year’s BIG EAST Tournament with SU defeating SJU, 4-0. SU holds a 10-4 series advantage.
After the Friday evening match with St. John’s, SU then travels to face Buffalo on Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. This will be the ninth meeting between the schools, with Syracuse winning six of them.
