SU Escapes With 70-66 Win At Seton Hall

Alexander scored 14 points of her points in the first half on 6-of-7 shooting as SU led by three at halftime. Neither side led by more than five and they traded leads seven times in a back-and-forth opening 20 minutes of play.
Jasmine Crew scored 19 points (17 in the first half), shooting 4-of-9 from 3-point range as Seton Hall shot 38% (9-of-24) from beyond the arc.
The Orange shot 38 percent (24-of-63) from the field for the game and controlled play inside with a 47-38 rebounding advantage.
Both teams were without a key starter for an extended portion of the first half after picking up three fouls. Carmen Tyson-Thomas sat the final 12:48 with her third, while SHU’s Tajay Ashmeade missed the final 8:16 with her third.
The Orange opened the second half on a 10-2 run, capped by a layup from Phylesha Bullard. Later in the half with SU up ten, the Pirates responded with 17 straight points, including back-to-back three pointers from Terry Good prompting a Syracuse timeout.
Syracuse was held without a field goal for 9:22, and stayed in the game with the free throw shooting of Iasia Hemingway (18 points) and Alexander. Alexander would then make it 64-62 Pirates with a layup with less than four minutes left in regulation.
With Seton Hall leading 64-62, Crew hit a layup to give the Pirates a four-point lead before Tyson-Thomas cut the deficit to one with a three pointer off a feed from Hall.
After a Seton Hall foul with less than 30 seconds left in regulation, Hall would level the score at 66-66 with a free throw before Hemingway scored three of the game’s final four points.
